A Bat-tastic Hui!
NZPH26 Organising Committee
In March 2026, we were lucky enough to host the National Pekapeka Hui 2026, shining our headlamps on everything happening in the bat world.
Over three days, more than 200 bat enthusiasts, kaitiaki, researchers, and curious minds flew in from all corners of Aotearoa to connect, share knowledge, and celebrate our incredible pekapeka. From kōrero and workshops to field visits and plenty of good yarns, the kaupapa was carried by the passion and energy everyone brought with them.
To everyone who came along, thank you. Whether you travelled near or far, shared your expertise, supported behind the scenes, or simply showed up ready to learn and tautoko, you helped make this hui something truly special.
We might be a little biased toward bat conservation, but it’s all part of a bigger picture, caring for our taiao. Every connection made and idea shared strengthens that collective effort.
We’re leaving this hui feeling grateful, inspired, and a little bit sleep-deprived, in the best way. Safe to say, it was bat-tastic.
Our awesome friends from Bryter Science put together a hot-takes, showcasing all the awesome stuff that went down at the hui, check it out below!
