Making Pekapeka conservation for everyone

Welcome to Manaaki Pekapeka, a collective of community-driven projects working within the bat conservation space to protect our taonga, the pekapeka.

Who are we

Manaaki Pekapeka is a collaborative hub dedicated to the conservation of long-tailed bats in South Auckland. These unique and delicate creatures, endemic to New Zealand, are vital indicators of healthy ecosystems.

Our focus includes:

  • Locating and monitoring bat populations

  • Supporting predator control initiatives

  • Restoring native habitats

  • Engaging and educating the community

Our partners include Auckland Council, Predator Free Franklin, EcoQuest, Pest Free South Auckland, and The Crest. Together, we're working towards a predator-free South Auckland where pekapeka can flourish.
