Get Involved

Keen to get involved?

There are many ways to get involved in the work we do. Whether its Volunteering, attending a workshop, improving the predator control on your property, attending a bat walk, or sharing a post or two about how awesome our taonga the pekapeka is, every little bit makes a difference.

  • We take on seasonal volunteers in the Franklin and Manurewa areas to support our fieldwork and community projects. Roles may include:

    • Helping with bat walks and public events

    • Setting up and collecting acoustic bat monitors

    • Supporting habitat restoration or planting days

No experience needed, just curiosity, reliability, and a willingness to learn. Training and gear are provided where required.

If you’d like to put your hand up to volunteer, stay tuned to our socials for callouts, or get in touch with us at franklinbats@ecoquest.co.nz

  • We run workshops, wānanga, and bat walk events throughout the year, from hands-on training with bat detectors to evening walks where you can experience pekapeka in action. These events are open to all ages and are a great way to learn, connect, and get inspired.

    What you can expect:

    • Guided bat walks using detecting equipment

    • Intro sessions on pekapeka ecology and habitat

    • Practical skills like using detectors or setting up monitoring sites

  • If you’d like to support our pekapeka conservation mahi but can’t volunteer or attend in person, donating is an awesome way to help. Every contribution goes toward things like monitoring gear, education resources, event costs, and keeping our projects going.

    Ways you can support:

    • Make a one-off or regular donation

    • Purchase merch that helps fund our projects (coming soon!)

Want to donate? Head to our donation page (coming soon)

  • Not everyone can volunteer or donate, and that’s totally fine. One of the easiest ways to support pekapeka is simply by helping others learn about them.

Ways you can help boost awareness:

    • Share our posts, videos, and updates on social media

    • Tell your friends, whānau, or workmates about pekapeka

    • Invite others to a bat walk or event

    • Use your platforms (school newsletters, community pages, etc.) to highlight our kaupapa

Every conversation, post, or share helps bring more people into the movement, and the more awareness we build, the more protection our taonga have.
