We’ve got some exciting news!
In March 2026, we will be hosting the National Bat Hui.
Come together with researchers, iwi, kaitiaki, and communities at Rereteewhioi Marae to learn, share, and help shape the future of pekapeka conservation.
Who are we
Manaaki Pekapeka is a collaborative hub dedicated to the conservation of long-tailed bats in South Auckland. These unique and delicate creatures, endemic to New Zealand, are vital indicators of healthy ecosystems.
Our focus includes:
Locating and monitoring bat populations
Supporting predator control initiatives
Restoring native habitats
Engaging and educating the community
Our partners include Auckland Council, Predator Free Franklin, EcoQuest, Pest Free South Auckland, and The Crest. Together, we're working towards a predator-free South Auckland where pekapeka can flourish.
